The Junior Developer maintains front-end and back-end applications and is responsible for code development and maintenance in an Agile environment.

  • Follows current OI&T Delivery framework and overarching VA (Veterans Affairs) guidance (One-VA Technical Reference Model (TRM))
  • Uses GitHub, JIRA, and ServiceNow
  • Contributes to design activities
  • Develops code with assistance and independently
  • Participates in code reviews
  • Helps with periodic and adaptive maintenance to applications
  • Aids with modifications to software logic, database schemas, and metadata in accordance with established VA policies and procedures, as necessary, to remediate software defects
  • Supports updates to Defect Management Plan, Monthly Code Plans, Monthly Summary Defect Reports, Annual Summary Defect Reports, Product Sustainment Reports
  • Assesses, remediates, and escalates trouble tickets within established performance targets
  • Analyzes technical issues
  • Provides documentation changes
  • Collaborates with other internal and external groups
  • Participates as a member of the development support team
  • 1 year of professional software development experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, or other related field
  • Experience with MUMPs, Delphi, Java, JavaScript, Python, C, C++, .NET, and/or Ruby on Rails software development
  • Experience with software development frameworks (e.g., Spring, Spring Boot, React, PyTorch, JUnit, Jest)
  • Knowledge of Integrated Development Environments (e.g., Delphi, Eclipse, Visual Studio, VSCode, IntelliJ, JetBrains)
  • Understanding of modern software design and development methodologies (e.g., Agile, OO)
  • Understanding of a full release project life cycle
  • Above average ability to consistently apply quality and security standards
  • Above average ability to work effectively in a team and with clients
  • Above average verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Federal Civilian Public Trust
