About The Position

The Junior Designer of Engineering Projects provides drafting and design support for capital projects across a national network of asphalt manufacturing facilities. Working under the guidance of senior designers and engineers, this role produces accurate 2D/3D drawings, assists with design coordination, and supports document control processes. This is a hands‑on developmental role ideal for individuals beginning a career in industrial design within a plant engineering environment.

Requirements

  • Technical certificate or associate degree in Drafting/Design, Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field.
  • 0–2 years experience; internship or exposure to industrial/plant environments is a plus.
  • Basic proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or similar drafting/modeling tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn industrial drafting standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced project environment with shifting priorities.
  • Travel as required to perform facility site visits, field data gathering, and laser scanning of necessary information to assist in as-building, scope development, project reviews, and development of modified or new drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and update drawings including P&IDs, piping layouts, equipment arrangements, civil/structural details, and electrical/instrumentation schematics.
  • Assist with development of 3D models for piping, equipment, and structural elements.
  • Incorporate redlines, field markups, and vendor information into design packages.
  • Operate laser scanning equipment and process scan data utilizing FARO Scene software
  • Support engineering teams on capital and maintenance projects from conceptual design through IFC and as‑built stages.
  • Help assemble design deliverables, drawing packages, and document submittals.
  • Participate in site walkdowns, measurements, and data collection under supervision.
  • Follow established drafting standards, templates, file structures, and naming conventions.
  • Perform basic self-checking of work to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain alignment with corporate document control processes for versioning and revisions.
  • Work closely with senior designers, engineers, project managers, and plant personnel.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design coordination meetings.
  • Communicate status updates, potential issues, and needed clarifications.
