About The Position

The Junior Counselor position is a mentorship program and will help support aspects of the camp program by working alongside our camp staff. Junior Counselors will assist with the general operations of Woodward camp including the execution of daily programming instruction and events. Duties will include but are not limited to mentoring and guiding younger campers, assisting with program events and instruction sessions, assisting in the creation of a positive cabin experience, assisting with cabin cleanliness, assisting with general camp cleanliness etc. The Junior Counselor position is a part-time seasonal position open to summer campers ages 16 to 17. Campers who are hired into junior counselor position will stay for up to two camp sessions after their purchased session.

Requirements

  • Must be 16-17 years old
  • Must complete a camper week prior to beginning duties
  • Provide work related references upon request.
  • Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of all pre-hire background checks, including criminal history clearance through the Pennsylvania State Police (PATCH), child abuse clearance through the Department of Public Welfare, Motor Vehicle Record if required by position and federal background screening via FBI fingerprinting
  • Must have or be able to obtain the following prior to starting work: Woodward will supply information to assist you in obtaining these if needed.
  • Safesport Training Certificate
  • bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable working in an outdoor and indoor all-season environment.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety practices, expectations, and guidelines.
  • Required 2 -week commitment within summer camp season.
  • Must be registered for a camper week.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred 1+ years of experience working with kids and/or teens
  • Experience working in a camp environment is preferred.
  • Experience in action sports coaching preferred

Responsibilities

  • Attend mentoring/training sessions as assigned by manager
  • Mentor/Guide younger campers to enhance their experience
  • Assist with younger camper afternoon instruction
  • Assist with program events, clinics, etc.
  • Assist with recreation activities as assigned
  • Assist in the maintaining of skatepark cleanliness by sweeping/mopping and picking-up trash.
  • Assist counselors with cabin duties
  • Junior counselors are required to attend all morning mandatory sessions for chosen sport.
  • Other duties as assigned
