About The Position

The Junior Counselor will assist in conducting daily camp activities, including arts and crafts, games, music, nature activities, and tours of Zoo exhibits. These positions involve direct interactions with children ages 5-12.

Requirements

  • Must be personable and outgoing, works efficiently and in an organized manner.
  • Must pass background screen which includes fingerprinting and drug screen.
  • Provide three positive written references attesting to the suitability of the individual to work with children.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Should be personable and outgoing, work efficiently and in an organized manner.
  • Must have effective/strong communication skills.
  • Must be willing to be fingerprinted, drug screened and to secure three written references attesting to the suitability of the individual to work with children.
  • Must be available May 26 through August 7.
  • Must be available to work Monday-Friday.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in camp, zoo, aquarium, or nature center education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises youth campers ensuring a safe and positive summer camp experience.
  • Assists or conducts daily camp activities, i.e., arts, crafts, games, music programs, nature activities and tours of the Zoo.
  • Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
