About The Position

The Junior Accountant at First Place for Youth plays a crucial role in the Revenue Accounting Team, responsible for various accounting duties related to government contracts, private fundraising, and the organization's national expansion. This position supports the accounting and decision-making processes for all revenue streams, ensuring accurate billing, collections, and compliance with contract terms. The role requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as it involves customer interactions and collaboration with other departments.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in an accounting position; experience with accounts payable or accounts receivable preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications; experience with MIP (Sage) and Concur a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively across an organization.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Aptitude to learn and grow within the team.
  • Must be able to pass a Community Care Licensing background check.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, or annual invoices in accordance with contract terms and deadlines.
  • Verify contract specific cost allocations and review GL coding for accuracy, correcting or removing unallowable expenses as needed.
  • Process entries to record revenue in the accounting system and reconcile balances to the general ledger monthly.
  • Update contract tracking spreadsheet with actual or estimated invoice amounts; coordinate with program managers on spending.
  • Review accounts receivable aging on a regular basis and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Assist with preparation for government contract audits including preparation of audit schedules and collection of supporting documentation.
  • Act as back up for the Staff Accountant I.
  • Complete other tasks and projects as needed.
