The Retail Development Program (RDP) at Belk is an innovative initiative aimed at preparing recent college graduates for a successful career in retail. This fast-paced three-month program is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of various business functions, including Merchandising, Planning, and Supply Chain. The program emphasizes key components such as Education, Experience, Exposure, Innovation, and Results, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to transition into full-time roles within the company. Participants in the RDP will be based in Belk's Charlotte, NC headquarters and are required to relocate to the Charlotte Metro area for the first 12 months of their employment. The Planning track of the program specifically prepares participants for their initial role as an Assistant Planner. In this capacity, they will be responsible for building merchandise financial plans that align with corporate financial goals while supporting the overall merchandise strategies. This role involves close collaboration with the Planner to conduct essential business analyses aimed at maximizing profitability. The program adopts a hands-on learning approach, allowing participants to quickly assume job responsibilities while engaging in a robust learning curriculum. They will have the opportunity to interact with senior leaders, attend networking events, and learn from top talent within the organization. Additionally, RDP participants will be placed within a Buying office to gain firsthand experience and will be matched with mentors to facilitate their acclimatization to Belk and support their professional development.
