About The Position

The Judicial Staff Attorney position at Oakland County involves a range of responsibilities centered around legal research and support for the judiciary. The attorney will perform computerized legal research, write pre-hearing reports, and make recommendations regarding judicial actions. This role requires drafting opinions and orders related to complex domestic relations and juvenile court matters, including neglect and delinquency cases. The attorney will provide legal advice to judges on the interpretation of civil, criminal, and Family Court statutes, as well as case law and procedures. Additionally, the attorney will assist in coordinating chamber operations and managing the corresponding docket to ensure compliance with relevant statutes, case law, administrative orders, and court rules. Under limited direction, the Judicial Staff Attorney will assess and analyze complex legal issues, providing information about courtroom procedures and legal processes to attorneys and self-represented litigants. The attorney will also advise parties on the strengths of their respective positions and facilitate discussions to help reach settlements on disputed issues. Acting as a liaison between the court, litigants, attorneys, and court personnel is a critical aspect of this role, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among all parties involved in the judicial process.
