About The Position

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and at least one year of further education in a secretarial or paralegal program.
  • At least three years of prior secretarial experience, preferably in a legal setting.
  • Knowledge of basic English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and legal terminology.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and various software applications, especially Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of court operations and procedures.
  • Ability to type at an acceptable rate and use various office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with database management software.
  • Knowledge of Trial Court fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to research issues and present findings clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribes dictation of orders, memoranda, opinions, decisions, findings, directives, correspondence, and administrative reports.
  • Types legal documents, decisions, and memoranda of law for law clerks and Justices, maintaining these documents in a database.
  • Proofreads typed material for accuracy, punctuation, spelling, grammar, and legal citation.
  • Screens visitors and telephone calls, answering inquiries or referring them to appropriate personnel.
  • Operates office equipment including personal computers, typewriters, photocopiers, and fax machines.
  • Maintains the law library, office inventory, personal records, legal files, and calendars.
  • Types complex documents and decisions using advanced word processing functions at the Judicial Secretary II level.
  • Prepares payment vouchers and records documents in the Budgetary Control Register.
  • Provides research assistance as directed by the Justices.
  • Composes correspondence for a Judge's review and signature.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary of $55,128.58 per year.
