Judicial Case Manager I

About The Position

This is the entry level of caseload management work in the civil miscellaneous division of the Court of Chancery. This position is learning the legal processes, procedures, and case management functions while performing the full range of case management activities within the Court. This position must also perform court clerk duties and may be required to travel to Dover to cover in-court events.

Requirements

  • Six months experience in managing cases as they move through the legal process.
  • Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  • Knowledge of narrative report writing.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently maintain professionalism when communicating with attorneys, pro se litigants, Judicial Officers and other court staff in person and on the phone.
  • Answer phone calls and assist all parties regarding guardianship matters and general questions.
  • Review guardianship petitions from pro se litigants and attorneys for accuracy and compliance with court rules and statutes.
  • This requires a knowledge of the court rules, statutes and procedures and the ability to apply them accurately.
  • Prepare proposed orders for the Judicial Officer.
  • Prepare and mail and/or e-file letters regarding documents to be filed and issue rules to show cause as necessary for delinquent items.
  • Schedule hearings and provide notice to parties, schedule court interpreter for hearing, as needed, clerk hearings, prepare an accurate judicial action form as a summary of the hearing, track exhibits filed at the hearing, setup/breakdown courtroom for any in-court events.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize work, be helpful, courteous, congenial and respectful.
  • Must have the ability to interpret and apply court rules, laws and procedural requirements for case events and case flow management while maintaining a high rate of accuracy in their work.
