About The Position

This is a temporary, part-time position beginning in May until mid-January. You will work Monday -Saturday from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or Culinary School education preferred
  • Servsafe Manager certification or comparable state approved Manager certification required at hire or within 30 days of hire.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience preparing meals for various dietary requirements, cultural diversity, and restrictions
  • Knowledge of State and local laws, ordinances, and codes as it relates to the safe handling, preparation, and storage of food
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English is required
  • Must be able to relate to a diverse population
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to provide direction to per diem kitchen staff and volunteers as needed
  • Medium to heavy physical agility including but not limited to standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, transporting heavy loads, and manipulating objects
  • Manual dexterity and ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Occasional exposure to heat, cold, unpleasant odors, mechanical parts, airborne particles, and moderate noise

Responsibilities

  • Directs, coordinates, and controls the activities of the kitchen and maintains the kitchen in a safe, sanitary, and dietetically hygienic condition at all times
  • Must be able to prepare a variety of items to order, as well as managing food presentation. As needed, must be able to meet special dietary needs (i.e. pureed, salt-free, etc.)
  • Coordinates services, repair, and maintenance necessary to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the kitchen and to maintain a comfortable physical environment for patients, staff, and visitors
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of temperature logs where required
  • Shops for groceries or may oversee/delegate this function to volunteers with approval of the Administrator. Stays within allocated grocery budget and makes recommendations for changes as needed and submits receipts to the Finance Department
  • Provides instruction and oversight to staff and volunteers assisting in meal preparation, service and kitchen maintenance. Reports all concerns to Administrator
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements for the local and State Departments of Health, the Joint Commission and the buildings/fire departments. Participates as required in surveys, inspections, and other activities
  • Plans and submits meal menus to the Administrator as requested
  • Plans and prepares food for special events and holiday meals
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies including emergency food and water to maximize the operational readiness of kitchen systems and equipment in conjunction with the Facilities Coordinator
  • In conjunction with the Facilities Coordinator, administers the kitchen fire protection and safety programs including staff education
  • Coordinates kitchen activities in the event of an emergency or utility outage
  • Ensures safety and efficiency by maintaining the kitchen’s environment and equipment. Assess equipment performance to determine whether repairs are needed and clean up kitchen areas throughout the shift to maintain a clean and productive environment. This also involves requiring other employees adhere to safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Participates in QAPI program and hospice sponsored in-service training in compliance with professional, regulatory and agency standards. Attends agency staff meetings as required.
  • Incorporates organization’s commitment to customer service and continuous quality improvement into daily work habits.

  • Supports the goals and mission as set forth by the Board of Directors and administration of the agency
  • Performs other Duties as assigned
