About The Position

Lars Remodeling & Design, an award-winning home remodeling company in San Diego, specializing in residential remodels and new home construction, is seeking a Jr. Residential Designer to join our growing team of professionals. This is a full-time, office-based position. No telecommuting. No consulting. Please do not apply if you are unable to work in our San Diego office. POSITION SUMMARY The Jr. Interior Designer (Jr. ID) is responsible for assisting the Interior Designers (ID) with their daily duties of project design and development. This can include, but is not limited to: product research, product selections, sourcing of materials, material costs, producing/revising ID sets, maintaining the selections library, entering data into Builder Trend (BT), attending client meetings and assisting with client presentations. The Jr. ID will report to the ID and work directly with him/her to ensure the facilitation of the project's completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Environmental Design or related field; Required
  • CA Driver's License; Required
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Have a good understanding of basic design principles
  • Must have a high level of current product knowledge in the marketplace, including but not limited to flooring, tile, countertops, paint, plumbing, appliances, and electrical
  • Must exhibit a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to balance multiple projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Be fluent in the English language
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Have the ability to visualize concepts and explain them to others

  • Software proficiency including but not limited to; PDF – Xchange for PDF creation; Builder Trend, construction management software; Sketch UP, 3D modeling application; AutoCAD, 2D and 3D modeling application

Responsibilities

  • Prepare presentation materials with the direction of the ID
  • Meet weekly with ID to review weekly project tasks and deadlines
  • Maintain proficiency with the company's drafting and design software to create models and visuals including, but not limited to: CAD, Revit, Sketchup and Lumion
  • Attend discovery meetings and take notes or photographs as needed and assist ID with documenting and organizing project goals. Start collecting inspiration images, and identifying material and product specifications and samples that may be needed for the project
  • Work with Residential Designers (RD) to develop 3D rendering perspectives with sketch and material layouts as needed
  • Upon contract, create a blocked ID set of final design for first selections meeting with client
  • Set up BT and update with final selections as the design develops. This includes all material selections, electrical fixtures and plumbing & appliance selections
  • Attend selections meetings with ID and clients to gain knowledge on contracted plan and material inspiration
  • Finalize all details on the ID set of plans and complete a department review in a timely manner before client signing. Scan and upload to the server and BT when complete. Print copies of the finalized ID set for end of design meeting (EOD)
  • Complete take-offs for tile, countertops, etc. as needed and request quotes from vendors for all allowance items. Coordinate with the estimating/purchasing department to keep orders and pricing ready for purchasing
  • Complete job binders for EOD meeting
  • Attend EOD meeting and assist ID and team to address any outstanding selections or design issues that need attention
  • Maintain outlook calendar along with team emails to keep up to date on all assigned projects
  • Organize selections library as needed. Ensure all labels and tags are current, neat and, clean
  • Maintain selections library inventory
  • Order product from vendors as needed
  • Order all samples and materials needed for the project as the design develops
  • Order and track cabinet paint/stain samples
  • Schedule product knowledge (PK) demonstrations with sales representatives. Must have DID approval
  • Attend periodic internal and client meetings with ID and assist with all necessary tasks
  • Assist ID's in preparing meeting rooms and picking up materials after client meetings
  • Return sample materials to showrooms
  • Debrief meetings – assist team in design development of project
  • Work with ID to prepare PowerPoint presentations and procure material samples for design review meetings
