The Junior Operator is a member of in the Operations group, which focuses on organizing, staffing, and operating TAE's experimental facilities. The group is part of the Experiment section of the C-2W program in TAE's Fusion division and the Junior Operator is responsible for operating, testing, troubleshooting, documenting, and maintaining Tri Alpha Energy's C-2W experimental plasma fusion test machine and associated subsystems. Several operators who are experts in running large-scale, complex experimental equipment make up the Operations group. In addition to personally operating the machines and their subsystems, the Junior Operator provides project support for the physics and engineering departments. This is an entry level position in machine operations involving plasma fusion research. The candidate will act as the machine Operator In Charge (OIC), and provide subsystems support, as well as performing maintenance and equipment assembly. Job responsibilities will be about 70% Operations, and 30% project work with other related work units, as appropriate for the skill sets and interests of the Jr. Operator, as well as the needs of TAE. The OIC must be capable of multi-tasking while paying meticulous attention to details regarding the status and configuration of the machine. The OIC is also responsible for operating the Emergency Safety System, while following and enforcing safe work practices in an industrial environment. The position will also involve some shift work on evenings and weekends, with the possibility of 24/7 on-call off-hour support in the future.
