Jr High Ministry Lead

CALVARY CHAPEL OF COSTA MESASanta Ana, CA
11d$70,000 - $85,000

About The Position

Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa is a Jesus Formed Community on Mission. Community, Formation and Mission are the three main ways that we believe we are to live out our discipleship to Jesus. We believe that through Gospel teaching, training, and resources, God’s people are enabled to take their discipleship into their own hands. We do this by living out the listening, serving, and helping posture of Jesus in our church community. Calvary Chapel will be engaging in the mission of God to reach those who are far from God and his kingdom by engaging in spiritual formation, practicing the way of Jesus through the spiritual disciplines in community and putting the life of Jesus and the community of the spirit on display through non-threatening exposures to the Jesus community. Formation + Community = Mission The ministry began with the church located in Costa Mesa, CA and has flourished and expanded into a multifaceted ministry whose influence has reached to the ends of the earth. We have now re-focused as a local Church-centered organization with a goal of forming, resourcing and educating followers of Jesus. The Junior High Ministry Lead at Calvary Chapel is responsible to provide pastoral leadership and care for Junior High School students. To oversee and cultivate a Gospel-shaped community that is actively committed to the mission of Jesus; of making disciples, teaching the way of Jesus, and practicing the love of Jesus in the world. The ideal candidate will be a minister of the Gospel and will have a strong relationship with Jesus Christ. Their relationship with Jesus will be a living example to the those they come into contact with. General Responsibilities Pastoral responsibility – Supports the mission, vision and values and various ministries of Calvary Chapel. This includes teaching and being available to provide Biblical guidance, care and prayer. Junior High School Ministry responsibility – Under the oversight of the Director of Family Formation, their primary responsibility is to lead and shepherd the Junior High School community of Calvary Chapel by casting vision, making disciples through preaching the Gospel and teaching the Scriptures and observing the sacraments (water baptism and the Lord’s Supper through communion), setting the example of Christian worship, living, service, and guiding Junior high school aged youth into the broader community life of Calvary Chapel as their home church, and equipping disciples for service in the local and global mission of God in the world. Sunday and Weekly gatherings – Present and prepared to welcome, engage and connect with Junior High School students and support volunteers in discipling students. Weekly Church staff meeting Monthly JHM Volunteer meeting – Work with JHM Team on meeting agenda and support volunteers by resourcing and coaching them for effective connection and discipleship with students. Discipleship – One of the main functions of the lead is to model what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and to help others in their own discipleship to Jesus. We believe that this is accomplished first through our being with Jesus, becoming like Jesus and doing what Jesus did. Discipling others is simply inviting them along in this journey of being a disciple of Jesus in these three ways. We believe that discipleship of young adults is most effective by them being seen and being pursued, heard and understood in conversation and deeply listened to in a way that answers their heart cry or need and cared for by resourcing them with tools (Spiritual disciplines, prayer, Bible study, theology, practical care or resources) and connection with the broader church community. Discipleship for JHM Volunteer Leaders – Our Desire is that the same kind of discipleship would be modeled for our Junior High ministry leader volunteers – being seen and being pursued, heard and understood in conversation and deeply listened to in a way that answers their heart cry or need and cared for by resourcing them with tools (Spiritual disciplines, prayer, Bible study, theology, practical care or resources) and connection with the broader church community.
