About The Position

Purpose and Impact: As a Junior Data Scientist, you will support an exciting National Security mission to position NGA to be the enterprise and community GEOINT data provider, improving the way analysts, customers, and end users access, discover, stage, link, produce, re-integrate, and deliver intelligence. You will work with talented developers and colleagues, gaining exposure to industry best practices such as AWS cloud solutions. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm

Requirements

  • Must have experience as a data scientist using imagery data
  • Experience writing code in Python, R, Scala, JavaScript, C++ with documentation for reproducibility
  • Strong knowledge and experience of visual programming or object-oriented modeling workflows to automate data acquisition
  • Ability to manipulate data from multiple structured and unstructured data sources
  • Apply analytical methodologies to diagnose data-related challenges, implement solutions, and evaluate performance
  • Ability to conduct data analytics, data engineering, data mining, exploratory analysis, predictive analysis, and statistical analysis, and uses scientific techniques to correlate data into graphical, written visual and verbal narrative products, enabling more informed analytic decisions
  • Ability to identify and appropriately evaluate a wide range of existing methods, models and algorithms in familiar domains for a variety of mission driven problems while recognizing the capabilities and limitations of each method
  • Ability to categorize the data and metadata to build the metadata application profile.
  • Experience with Apache Hadoop, HUE, Hive, Pig, Spark, Elasticsearch, Kibana, or Tableau
  • Clearance Required: TS/SCI with Poly
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree plus 1-3 years’ experience, or a Master's Degree plus 1-3 years of experience
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 1 - 3

  • Knowledge and experience with Search tools, Search results organization and the implications of metadata organization, indexing, catalog content
  • Experience in GIS-related applications

Responsibilities

  • As a Junior Data Scientist, you will work as part of team of data engineers, database developers and visualization specialists to analyze large sets of structured data, looking for anomalies and undiscovered correlations
  • Perform deep dive analysis into data sets and reports to identify problems or suspected issues with data
  • Able to develop & use exceptionally complex concepts & processes that span multiple organizations and disciplines
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to increase available data quality and speed of delivery
  • Participate on an Agile development team, using Scrum techniques, as a contributing development team member
  • Work with the software engineering team to deploy models that provide ongoing forecasts, optimizations, recommendations, and insights to support the Chief Data Office
