About The Position

The role of the Jr. Cost Accountant is to monitor, support and execute tasks related to a broad base of accounting responsibilities and reporting functions. As this is a small team, employees in this role may complete or cover numerous duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field required
  • Associate’s degree with relative experience may be considered
  • 5+ yrs. experience in broad-based accounting functions
  • High attention to accuracy and detail
  • Critical thinking skills to question and analyze
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Demonstrated ability to think through and solve problems; able to recommend solutions to more complex scenarios
  • Persistency to follow a problem through to the end
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Word and Excel; familiar with various function related software options
  • Professional demeanor; ability to interact with both internal and external customers at various levels
  • Effective in training and/or providing guidance or instructions to others as needed
  • Ability to read and comprehend documents including technical financial information. Ability to write reports, and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with people at multiple levels.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Strong ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables at the same time.

Nice To Haves

  • Sage familiarity is highly desired
  • Experience in a combination of AR, AP, inventory/cycle counting, audits, and financial analysis

Responsibilities

  • Supports the accounting function by completing duties related to these activities:
  • Invoicing and Job Cost Reporting
  • Initiate Inventory Cycle Counts
  • Monthly Reporting
  • Determine and report on future revenue coming from open Customer Orders
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Assist in the processing of payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees
  • Responsible for the accurate reporting of revenue and ensures adherence to the revenue recognition process; generate system reports and analysis as needed
  • Determine and report on future revenue coming from open Customer Orders
  • Assist the financial analysis and planning function in analyzing and determining root cause of cost variations and in support of budget and forecast activities.
  • Communicate with auditors to answer questions and resolve problems
  • Serve as a resource of technical knowledge about cost data and system of inventory transactions; provide training or guidance to others in or outside of team.
  • Drive consistent and timely processing of work and systems to ensure meeting established metrics/KPIs
  • Review, investigate and resolve issues; recommend solutions for the larger problems requiring leader involvement
  • Assist with other projects as needed or assigned
