About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Junior Construction Inspector for soil testing inspections and future road and bridge inspection projects. Our ideal candidate will be a highly motivated & qualified individual, with experience in quality assurance and quality control testing of materials related to soils and aggregates in the field. Candidate should have a solid understanding of civil engineering principles with a geotechnical focus, and a desire to work on multi-disciplinary projects. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and inspecting various highway and/or bridge construction projects across New Jersey, ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with established standards, specifications, and regulations. This role will also involve office engineer duties as outlined below. Work schedule varies according to job assignments and/or contractors' schedule, to include night work, weekends, and holidays. This job requires travel to various job sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Geological Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • Familiar with ASTM, AASHTO and ACI standards for testing and inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project/construction management software.
  • Valid driver's license, consistent means of transportation to/from project sites, and willingness to travel to various project sites within New Jersey.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in construction inspection, with a focus on transportation infrastructure projects and/or soil testing.
  • Familiarity with Bentley gINT software.
  • Certifications/Trainings OSHA 30
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) - Soil Inspector
  • International Code Council (ICC) - Soil Inspector
  • New Jersey DCA Certified
  • NICET I or II certification in Highway Construction Inspection or Construction Materials Testing Soils.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • NJSAT and TCC/TCP Certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Material quality services are completed through field operations in all the major material disciplines as directed (soils, aggregate, metals, structures, asphalt, concrete coatings, and paints).
  • Observe field work to ensure workmanship and materials meet standards.
  • Inspect soil boring operations -- roadway borings, retaining wall borings, bridge borings.
  • Soil identification.
  • Prepare field boring logs in accordance with NJ Turnpike procedures.
  • Install wells and record monitoring well data.
  • Enter data for Test calculations.
  • Maintain project records.
  • Ability to document daily inspections and various other reports.
  • Provide daily inspections of highway and/or bridge construction projects and inspect related work materials to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and state regulations.
  • Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings, including recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
  • Monitor and document the progress of construction activities, identifying any deviations from the planned schedule or specifications.
  • Communicate with prime and other subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with project team members, engineers, and contractors to address and resolve any issues that arise during construction.
  • Ensure that the contracted drilling firm carries out its work in accordance with contract specification.
  • Review and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate implementation on-site.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality control procedures.
  • Attend meetings and conferences as needed.
  • Travel to various project sites.
