About The Position

The Work: ICF is looking for an enthusiastic Jr. Computer Security System Specialist to join our team. If you are interested in supporting the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of an organization’s information security systems, then this may be the role for you. Job Location: This position requires that the job be performed in the United States. If you accept this position, you should note that ICF does monitor employee work locations and blocks access from foreign locations/foreign IP addresses, and also prohibits personal VPN connections. You may be asked to travel once a quarter to an office. Our core work hours are 10am - 4pm Eastern Time with the option to start earlier or work later depending on your time zone. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field from an accredited institution
  • 3+ years of experience in IT support, cybersecurity, or network administration.
  • Good knowledge of network security principles, operating systems, and system administration.
  • Experience with security tools such as antivirus software, firewalls, or monitoring systems.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
  • Candidate must reside in the U.S., be authorized to work in the U.S., and all work must be performed in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Entry-level security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, or similar.
  • Familiarity with SIEM tools, vulnerability scanning tools, or endpoint security platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of security frameworks or standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
  • Exposure to Linux/Windows system administration.
  • Experience with scripting or automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor security systems and tools to detect potential threats, vulnerabilities, or unauthorized activities.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint protection solutions.
  • Support vulnerability assessments and basic security audits of systems and networks.
  • Help investigate and document security incidents and assist with incident response activities.
  • Maintain and update security documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with access control management and user account security.
  • Support patch management and system updates to address known vulnerabilities.
  • Generate and review security logs, alerts, and reports for suspicious activity.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure systems meet organizational security standards.
  • Stay informed about emerging cybersecurity threats and best practices.
