About The Position

Teachers will utilize a variety of instructional techniques and learning opportunities to enable students to develop competencies and skills which will ensure student success in the assigned subject area and in society. A Jr. Cadet Corp Teacher is respnsible for assisting the Senior Instructor for implementing the policies and procedures for the high school JROTC unit program according to national, state, and district standards. Primary drill and leadership instructor for mentoring, and motivate cadets in promoting, social, civic, character education, and physical growth. Responsible for assisting in managing and implementing the military service's national education curriculum and program requirements; advise and assist in plans, coordination, and supervision of all co-curricular service learning, special activities or events (military ball, drill meets, honor guards, and other extracurricular activities). Assist in property management and fund raising for the unit. Assists in administering the automated cadet record system and reporting for military and district information.

Requirements

  • Retired Army Non-Commissioned Officer (E-6 up to CSM), Warrant Officer (W-2 up, W-4) with a minimum of 20 years military service
  • Not retired from military service longer than 10 years.
  • Meet current height and weight standards as outlined in Cadet Command Regulation 145-2, dated May 2006.
  • Possess Army Federal JROTC instructor certification.
  • Wear the Army uniform and meet personal grooming standards as outlined in Army Regulation 670-1.
  • Demonstrated troop level experience (company level, battalion, brigade) and staff experience.
  • Completion of secondary education teaching certification requirements for the program as established by the Secretary of the Army.

  • Associates or Baccalaureate degree preferred.
  • Military Education level (ANCOC, 1SG Academy, SGM Academy) desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and automation technology skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and evaluates student progress and growth through formal and informal evaluations procedures. Evaluates student's progress and determines materials and strategies to provide for their needs.
  • Coordinates and consolidates lesson plans, curriculum activities, and objectives with other content areas in order to provide for transfer of learning and knowledge.
  • 25% Effort. Develops thematic units and other projects to provide for extended interaction and creativity. Instructs 180 hours of military directed subject materials in classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Administer, advise, and appraise extracurricular teams (drill, rifle, physical training, academic challenge, and color guard).
  • Determines and administers cadets who serve in key leadership positions (command and staff).
  • Administers, advises, coordinates, and supervises special activities or events such as the annual military ball, drill meets, and the Final Review awards ceremony.
  • Implements and maintains communication and coordination with the school faculty and staff to promote cadet involvement in school activities, cadet recruitment and retention.
  • Coordinates, collaborates, and compiles data for data records in the automated cadet database. Manages and submits all reports required by the Army and the district.
  • Counsels, mentor, and tutors cadets as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
