About The Position

The Junior Animal Care Technician at Elanco is responsible for the care and management of various animals used in production, quality control, and research. This role involves handling, feeding, and monitoring the health of the animals, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, and maintaining proper documentation. The position requires working in both indoor and outdoor environments, often under adverse conditions, and includes responsibilities such as preparing facilities for incoming animals and administering treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• AALAS certification at the ALAT level, or ability to obtain within 16 months of employment.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Exhibit interpersonal skills conducive to effective communication and teamwork.
• Ability to work in adverse outdoor conditions.

Nice To Haves

• Additional education and/or equivalent experience.
• Successful completion of National Career Readiness Work Keys assessment.
• Two years of related animal experience.

Responsibilities

• Preparing for incoming animals by power washing, disinfecting, and setting up facilities.
• Performing daily observations of animals and reporting any abnormalities.
• Assisting in animal conditioning, including vaccinations and deworming.
• Administering treatments prescribed by the veterinarian for livestock, companion, and laboratory animals.
• Operating sterilizers, cage washers, and other equipment properly.
• Handling large equipment such as snow removal equipment, farm machinery, and fork trucks.
• Documenting work and observations with strict adherence to GXP documentation.
• Following proper sanitization techniques and rules.
