About The Position

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [PN]. The role involves performing duties in connection with the installation, removal, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution substation equipment. The position requires working under direct supervision and includes a variety of tasks related to substation equipment and systems.

Requirements

  • Must have attended training school for Substation Electrician A and successfully completed required examination.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid CDL Class A.
  • Must promote and interact harmoniously with fellow employees and customers.
  • Must have a telephone and respond regularly to planned overtime and call-outs.
  • Must satisfactorily progress in and complete required training courses.
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with local, state, and federal motor vehicle laws.
  • Must have demonstrated aptitude for and skill in the performance of assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned work in overhauling, calibration, and testing of new and in-service equipment.
  • Become proficient in wiring checkout, operational substation switching, testing, calibration, installation of overcurrent and ground relays, and application of programmable logic controllers.
  • Interpret and work from basic construction drawings, wiring drawings, and schematics.
  • Prepare written reports and records in connection with work performed, problems encountered, and solutions achieved.
  • Clean up liquid spills, smoke, fire, and water-damaged material according to safety regulations.
  • Provide timely, courteous, and helpful assistance in customer substations.
  • Replace defective devices, components, or connectors and repair, assemble, erect, and install equipment.
  • Receive and incorporate instruction in equipment operation and performance of work from higher classification employees.
  • Keep work area in good order and clean up after completion of work.
  • Assist in assignments related to the installation, adjustment, inspection, repair, and removal of designated substation systems.
  • Assist in inspection, testing, calibrating, maintaining, installing, and removing substation supervisory batteries and associated equipment.
  • Maintain, repair, and install all electrical equipment including circuit breakers, voltage regulators, transformers, and various relay and control equipment.
  • Perform machining, welding, brazing, and cutting operations.
  • Inspect manholes and vaults.
  • Operate field test equipment including ductor, hi-pot tester, and breaker travel analyzer.
  • Excavate manholes and vaults, and perform masonry tasks.
  • Operate booms, cranes, bucket trucks, and other aerial lift equipment.
  • Perform shop maintenance, repair, and test activities on distribution transformers and similar equipment.
