About The Position

Inwood Management is looking for a Journeyman Plumber, who supports campus operations by installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems in the residence halls and dining facilities. The role emphasizes safety, code compliance, customer service to students/faculty/staff, and reliable service delivery within a diverse, high-traffic campus environment.

Requirements

  • Valid Journeyman Plumber License (state-specific)
  • 4+ years of progressively responsible plumbing experience (commercial/industrial/institutional preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to operate a vehicles
  • Certifications: Backflow Tester, OSHA 10/30, Confined Space, CPR/First Aid
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education or healthcare settings
  • Experience with metering, water conservation retrofits, and sustainability initiatives
  • Basic welding/soldering/brazing; PVC/CPVC/HDPE fusion; PEX and copper proficiency
  • Proficiency with plumbing codes, standards, and best practices (IPC/UPC, backflow, cross-connection, ADA)
  • Experience with CMMS work orders and basic digital documentation (mobile device use)
  • Ability to read construction documents, riser diagrams, and O\&M manuals
  • Strong troubleshooting skills; able to work independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains potable water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, natural gas, and specialty piping (e.g., compressed air, vacuum)
  • Maintains and repairs fixtures (toilets, sinks, showers, eyewash stations, emergency showers), water heaters/boilers, sump pumps, ejector pumps, and circulating pumps
  • Services and tests backflow preventers, RPZs, and ensure cross-connection control per campus program and local code
  • Conducts preventive maintenance (PMs) on valves, regulators, traps, expansion tanks, and heat exchangers; documents PM completion in CMMS
  • Supports utility systems: domestic water mains, steam/condensate interfaces in buildings, chilled-water tie-ins, and meter reading
  • Works safely in residential environments; coordinates with EHS on chemical/biological safety and lockout/tagout
  • Responds to residence hall service calls, prioritizing resident safety, accessibility (ADA), and timely restoration
  • Communicates clearly with faculty, staff, and students; provides courteous, professional service with minimal disruption to teaching/research
  • Ensures work complies with applicable codes (IPC/UPC, local/state code), NFPA guidelines, ADA requirements, and university standards
  • Performs leak detection and pressure testing; maintains inspection/testing records (e.g., backflow, gas tests)
  • Uses the campus CMMS to receive/close work orders, tracks labor/materials, and updates asset histories
  • Follows EHS protocols (PPE, confined space entry, hot work permits, LOTO); participates in safety meetings and required trainings
  • Participates in an on-call rotation; responds to after-hours emergencies (floods, gas leaks, sewer backups) and weather-related events
  • Assists with winterization, freeze protection, and rapid response during campus closures
