About The Position

Join our team of Life Changers! UPMC is hiring a Full-time, Journeyman- Plumber to support the Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg. Must have either a Journeyman or Master Plumber license to qualify for this position. Individuals with boiler experience will be given priority. You will need to provide your own hand tools, UPMC will provide power tools and specialty tools. Schedule is Mon.-Fri. 7am-3:30pm On-call rotation is approximately every 6 weeks. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of 4-5 year apprenticeship, which includes blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, mathematics, electrical wiring and plumbing and minimum of three years of work experience REQUIRED
  • Knowledge of State and Local plumbing codes and ordinances is required.
  • Journeyman Plumber OR Master Plumber License
  • Driver's License
  • Act 34
  • Act 33 Child Clearance (must be provided within 30 days of hire)Act 73 FBI Clearance (must be provided within 30 days of hire)

  • Individuals with boiler experience will be given priority.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and maintain various types of pipe assemblies, plumbing fixtures and piping systems from blueprints and sketches, including but not limited to chilled water, heating hot water and medical gas.
  • Perform all work following infection control procedures.
  • Estimate costs of installations and repair work, including requisition of material, as needed.
  • Mark, cut and bend pipe to meet specifications by using hacksaw, pipe cutter or cutting machine.
  • Fit valves, couplings and other plumbing devices by screwing, bolting or soldering and seal connections with joint compounds, gaskets or caulking by using appropriate tools.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area, equipment rooms and shop areas.
  • Inspect systems for pressure loss and leaks.
  • Record work orders and submit hours to supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Prepare pipe for installation such as cutting, threading, removing burrs, grooving and bending.
  • Investigate and perform system outages.
  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored.
  • No contact with medications is allowed.
