About The Position

The Journeyman Pipelayer is responsible for the installation, inspection, and maintenance of ductile iron/mechanical joint and CPVC/PVC to prepare and install underground pipelines. This role requires a solid understanding of piping systems, proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics, and the ability to ensure that all installations comply with safety regulations and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate excavating equipment as well as shooting grade accurately is preferred
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and physical stamina
  • Strong knowledge of pipe laying techniques and best practices
  • Ability to operate and maintain pipe-laying equipment and machinery
  • Skilled in using hand and power tools common to the trade
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pipeline installation and maintenance
  • Extensive underground knowledge and experience required
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to pipeline construction
  • Experience with various materials and tools used in pipeline work
  • Ability to wear and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements
  • Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered spaces and uneven ground
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to and exceeding 50 pounds
  • Adequate vision to perform all required tasks
  • Work on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops
  • Comfortable with heights and able to climb and descend safely
  • Strong sense of balance and spatial awareness

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10-hour certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, and maintain piping systems and fixtures in industrial settings
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to ensure accurate installation
  • Cut pipes to required lengths, prepare them for welding and sealing, and assist in alignment during pipeline construction
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using welding equipment, cement, or glue
  • Assemble, install, and repair underground pipe fittings and valves of various materials and sizes for storm drains, sanitation sewers, or water mains
  • Conduct pressure tests to identify and repair any leaks or weaknesses in the piping systems
  • Ensure all installations comply with safety regulations and industry standards
  • Coordinate with other team members to complete projects efficiently and on time
  • Document all work performed and maintain accurate records of maintenance and inspections
  • Other duties as assigned
