About The Position

Collins Aerospace in Rockford, IL site aids in assembling the Ram Air Turbines (RAT) used for aircraft emergency power generation. Our Ram Air Turbines have been used to save aircrafts and over 2,600 lives. The Millwright Journeyman is responsible for maintaining the heating and cooling system, the plumbing systems, the sprinkler system, the fire systems, moves office equipment and boxes, paints, replaces ceiling tiles, lay down carpeting squares and tiles in the facility. Performs sheet metal fabrication and assembly, carpentry work, rigging and masonry, welding, soldering and brazing.

Requirements

  • Millwright Journeyman Card or minimum of eight (8) years Millwright experience.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the following tools: Pullers, hoists, cranes, dollies, tool hangers (to offset weight of tool), welding equipment, painting supplies, tools for HVAC system, metal fabrication equipment, pipe fitting tools, insulated hand tools, meters, sledge hammer, jack hammer, wrenches, pry bars, drills, extension cords, flooring tools, power tools and various other hand tools.
  • Able to read blueprints.
  • Carpentry and assembly experience.
  • HVAC experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs traditional trade work within the plant including installing, maintaining, and dismantling equipment, heating/ventilation/air conditioning, basic carpentry, troubleshooting, plumbing, painting, masonry, welding, and rigging.
  • Interprets blueprints to perform repairs and ensure working order of all plant equipment.
  • Prepares materials for construction or repair.
  • Performs a variety of activities, including special construction and demolition projects within the plant and offices.
  • Performs a variety of preventative maintenance activities for general equipment, tools and facilities (e.g. included but not limited to painting, cleaning filters, dryers, air lines, hoses, etc.).
  • Move furniture, shelving, machines, and other objects using power and hand equipment.
  • Understands the basic logic of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Works with basic hand and power tools on a variety of materials (e.g. wood, plastic, metal, etc.).
  • Operates power vehicles and uses rigging techniques safely.
  • Aware of the reaction and effect of common chemicals on a variety of metals and materials.
  • Understands basic chemical sampling and correct means of handling, delivery, disposal and storage of chemicals.
  • Performs other job related duties as required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
