About The Position

Under limited supervision from the shop foreman, the journeyman mechanic is responsible for performing work of considerable difficulty in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, and overseeing special projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Three years journeyman experience and/or two year diesel mechanic certificate preferred.
  • Maintain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and department of transportation (DOT) medical card, preferred but not required.
  • Attention and commitment to safety
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Ability to work long hours
  • Ability to move 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, electronics, and familiar with components associated with them
  • Skilled in welding, cutting, and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of plants, set up, and movement
  • Knowledge of boiler systems and operations
  • Knowledge of towing, recovery, lifting, and rigging
  • Knowledge of conveyor systems
  • Knowledge of fuel and fueling systems
  • Vast knowledge of complex electrical systems on vehicles/ equipment
  • Vast knowledge of complex hydraulic systems

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Visualize, fulfill, and implement the company vision and core values.
  • Perform duties of a mechanic class 2.
  • Direct the work of several projects.
  • Welding and fabrication.
  • Diagnose, rebuild, and repair vehicles and equipment; perform major engine and transmission repairs and replacements as well as electrical diagnosis.
  • Perform plant inspections, diagnose any problems, and perform plant maintenance, including electrical.
  • Complete major road calls and perform field repairs.
  • Perform inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Maintain tools as required to do the job.
  • Operate forklift.
  • Maintain insurable driving record.
  • Ensure a safe and healthful work environment at all time.
