About The Position

The Journeyman Lineman is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical power systems, including overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines. This position plays a critical role in supporting utility and infrastructure projects safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Probst Electric’s high standards for quality and safety.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Lineman Certification from a recognized DOL or equivalent apprenticeship program.
  • Valid Class A CDL (or ability to obtain) with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in transmission, distribution, or substation line work.
  • Proven commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to climb, lift, and perform physically demanding tasks safely.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours as needed for project demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with energized (“hot line”) work using hot sticks or rubber glove methods.
  • Familiarity with underground systems and conduit installation.
  • Current OSHA 10/ET&D, First Aid/CPR, and other relevant safety certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electrical lines and equipment.
  • Install, replace, and maintain transformers, switches, conductors, insulators, and other system components.
  • String, sag, and connect wire; set poles; climb structures; and operate aerial lifts and bucket trucks as required.
  • Follow all Probst Electric, Quanta Services, OSHA, DOT, and client safety standards on every job.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot line outages, faults, and service interruptions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, staking sheets, and line diagrams to ensure accurate project execution.
  • Operate digger derricks, cranes, pullers, tensioners, and other specialty line‑construction equipment.
  • Mentor and support Apprentice Linemen, promoting strong skills, safe work habits, and team culture.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and job‑site activities.
  • Work in a variety of outdoor field environments and weather conditions, often in fast‑moving or high‑demand situations.
