About The Position

Northern Wasco County PUD is looking for a Journeyman Lineman to join our team. This non-exempt, full time position offers 40 hours a week, Mon-Thurs (4/10) work schedule. The Journeyman Lineman under the direction of the Line Foreman will be responsible for constructing, repairing, maintaining, and replacing transmission and distribution power lines between generating stations, substations, and customers for Northern Wasco County PUD (NWCPUD). Note: The Lineman job title is used only in the generic sense and is meant to include all genders. Install and maintain both underground and overhead single and multi-phase circuits and equipment. This includes poles, pole hardware, line equipment, transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators by following diagrams/blueprints. Install or remove conductors, insulators, cross-arms, brackets, and other hardware by climbing poles or working from a bucket. Perform work on open switches or clamp grounding device to de-energized equipment, or de-energized line as directed by supervisor or Line Foreman. Connect and disconnect routine and delinquent customer accounts. Report on all unsafe acts, accidents, or conditions to the Line Foreman, or in his absence, the Operations Supervisor. Cover energized lines with fiber guards to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service. Use of hot sticks fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools. Patrol powerlines and repair applicable situations or report situations that require engineering attention or other work forces or equipment. Provide guidance and training to Apprentice Lineman. Trim trees as required to maintain powerline clearance. Inspect work for quality in accordance with application specifications and codes. Ensure that adequate safety supplies, tools and equipment are maintained and clean in assigned vehicles. Ensure the accuracy of daily timecard and submit for processing. Take call on a rotating after hours and weekend call rotation, and respond to outages, and emergencies as needed. Must be able to physically and mentally perform essential functions of position under harsh weather and working conditions. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three (3) years of experience as an Apprentice Lineman required.
  • Must have a valid, current Class A CDL driver’s license with air brake endorsement within ninety (90) days of hire. Driving record must be acceptable and insurable by NWCPUD insurance carrier at standard group rates. An annual consent for a release of one’s driving record is also required.
  • Certification or testing as a Journeyman Lineman through IBEW 125 required.
  • First Aid/ CPR Certification required within six (6) months of hire and must be maintained thereafter.
  • Must satisfactorily complete the annual refresher training required by OSHA 29CFR 1910.269.
  • Working knowledge in reading and interpreting maps, specifications, staking sheets, and complex diagrams.
  • Proficiency in communicating in English including reading, writing, and presenting.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills for the ability to measure and cut with precision and perform other tasks in line with electrical theory.
  • Working knowledge of safety protocols, and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in undesirable conditions for an extended period of time.
  • Basic knowledge of computer usage including internal systems, database software, and timekeeping tools.
  • Analytical ability, strong problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using hot sticks required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of large and small trucks, tensioner, puller, digger derrick aerial man/person-lift, and other special equipment.
  • Working knowledge in first aid, and respiration including pole top rescues.
  • Ability to be on call after hours on a rotating basis and respond to outages or emergencies as necessary.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to complete projects/tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Forklift and/or Oregon State Flagger Certification preferred.
  • Oregon State Flagger Certification preferred.
