About The Position

The Journeyman Lineman position at Tacoma Power's Transmission & Distribution section involves skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems. This role requires a high level of skill and safety awareness, as it often involves working on energized high voltage lines and under challenging weather conditions. While the work is typically supervised, there may be occasions for independent assignments and supervision of other workers.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Hold a current journey-level line electrician card.
• Valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License, Class A required at time of application.
• Must obtain tanker endorsement prior to completion of probation.
• Valid first aid, CPR, and flagging card must be obtained prior to completion of probation.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with rubber gloving and hot stick work.
• Knowledge of underground residential distribution and commercial underground systems.
• Familiarity with transmission and tower work.

Responsibilities

• Construct, maintain, and repair electrical overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems.
• Work on energized high voltage lines and under adverse weather conditions.
• Supervise skilled and unskilled workers on special assignments when necessary.
• Follow safety protocols and procedures while performing tasks.
• Lift heavy objects and climb power poles and towers as required.
• Operate equipment such as bucket trucks, line trucks, and wirepullers.
• Read and interpret circuit diagrams and system maps.
