We’re adding a Journeyman Large‑Part Machinist to our West Loop, Chicago, IL team. In our clean, employee-focused custom job shop, you’ll turn, bore, grind, and fit large pump components that keep critical operations running.

Requirements

  • 5+ years post-training machining LARGE PARTS on manual machines in an industrial environment
  • Hands-on with manual lathes and Vertical Turret Lathes
  • Proven ability to machine 3–10 ft pump shafts to 0.0005 in. or tighter using a steady rest
  • Shop math mastery and geometry for angles, radii, and bolt circles
  • Knows feed rates and how adjustments influence finish and tolerance
  • Capable with jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps
  • Detail-driven, dexterous, and in control under pressure
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational machining training (Journeyman preferred)
  • Ability to Commute: Chicago, IL 60607 (Required)
  • Ability to Relocate: Chicago, IL 60607 — Relocate before starting work (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Own manual setups and machining for diverse pump parts in a custom job-shop environment
  • Produce/repair impellers, wear-rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals to exact specifications
  • Translate mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches into efficient machining plans
  • Perform precision metal cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting on horizontal/vertical boring mills and ID/OD grinders
  • Inspect and record critical dimensions with appropriate measuring tools
  • Refine machining procedures to boost accuracy, repeatability, and throughput
  • Keep equipment in top condition and follow Hydro shop safety procedures
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with Engineers and fellow Machinists to troubleshoot and improve
