We’re adding a Journeyman Large‑Part Machinist to our West Loop, Chicago, IL team. In our clean, employee-focused custom job shop, you’ll turn, bore, grind, and fit large pump components that keep critical operations running.

Requirements

5+ years post-training machining LARGE PARTS on manual machines in an industrial environment
Hands-on with manual lathes and Vertical Turret Lathes
Proven ability to machine 3–10 ft pump shafts to 0.0005 in. or tighter using a steady rest
Shop math mastery and geometry for angles, radii, and bolt circles
Knows feed rates and how adjustments influence finish and tolerance
Capable with jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps
Detail-driven, dexterous, and in control under pressure
High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational machining training (Journeyman preferred)
Ability to Commute: Chicago, IL 60607 (Required)
Ability to Relocate: Chicago, IL 60607 — Relocate before starting work (Required)

Responsibilities

Own manual setups and machining for diverse pump parts in a custom job-shop environment
Produce/repair impellers, wear-rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals to exact specifications
Translate mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches into efficient machining plans
Perform precision metal cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting on horizontal/vertical boring mills and ID/OD grinders
Inspect and record critical dimensions with appropriate measuring tools
Refine machining procedures to boost accuracy, repeatability, and throughput
Keep equipment in top condition and follow Hydro shop safety procedures
Work shoulder-to-shoulder with Engineers and fellow Machinists to troubleshoot and improve
