About The Position

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for performing and supporting the installation of commercial-scale electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure projects, from pre-construction through final activation. This role is primarily hands-on and includes limited supervisory responsibility for one assigned project at a time, overseeing 1 to 5 apprentice electricians while actively performing electrical work. The Journeyman Electrician serves as the on-site technical lead during assigned tasks, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineered plans, NEC requirements, and local codes. This position plays a critical role in installation quality, schedule adherence, and field-level execution while working closely with Chargie project and engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Must have active Journeyman Electrician license
  • Minimum 4–5 years of commercial electrical experience, including experience guiding apprentice electricians
  • Experience with commercial EV charging infrastructure installations preferred
  • Working knowledge of current NEC standards and applicable local codes
  • Experience coordinating with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), preferably LADBS
  • Proven hands-on experience installing: Switchboards, transformers, panels, and distribution equipment
  • Commercial electrical systems and EV charging equipment
  • Strong understanding of: Fault current calculations and series rating
  • Electrical plan reading and interpretation
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical instructions to apprentice electricians
  • Comfortable working with live power and legacy electrical systems
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting equipment and working in active construction environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial EV charging infrastructure installations preferred
  • Experience coordinating with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), preferably LADBS

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on electrical installation work for commercial EV charging projects
  • Provide task-level supervision and guidance to 1–5 apprentice electricians on an assigned project
  • Assign daily work activities to apprentices and verify work quality, productivity, and safety compliance
  • Serve as the on-site electrical point of contact for the assigned scope of work
  • Coordinate work activities with other trades and Chargie field leadership as needed
  • Install and support commercial electrical infrastructure, including but not limited to: Switchboards, panels, transformers, main breakers, and load centers
  • Electrical raceways, conduit, and support systems
  • EV charging stations and associated electrical & network equipment
  • Support installations from pre-construction site evaluation through commissioning and activation
  • Perform terminations, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical systems
  • Work safely and confidently with live electrical systems when required
  • Evaluate existing electrical infrastructure, including legacy or outdated equipment, to determine safe integration methods
  • Develop material takeoffs and verify quantities based on site conditions and plan review
  • Perform fault current calculations, series rating verification, and equipment suitability checks
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing equipment and diagnostic methods
  • Read and interpret electrical plans, single-line diagrams, and specifications
  • Identify constructability issues or field conflicts and communicate them to project leadership
  • Provide practical feedback to engineers and project managers based on real-world site conditions
  • Ensure all installations comply with NEC, local AHJ requirements, and Chargie standards
  • Follow and enforce jobsite safety protocols and best practices
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to installations, testing, and field changes
  • Support schedule adherence by coordinating materials, tools, and manpower needs within the assigned scope
  • Participate in inspections and assist with addressing AHJ comments or corrections
