We are looking for a Journeyman Electrician to join our team in Carlsbad, CA. As a Journeyman Electrician at Willdan Performance Engineering, you will be an integral part of our team dedicated to delivering advanced energy efficiency and optimization solutions for commercial and industrial facilities. This role requires a proven background in electrical installations and repairs, with experience installing ABB Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) a major plus. A current Journeymen Electrical Certification is required.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current Journeymen Electrical Certification.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the electrical field.
  • Experience serving as a lead with an electrical installation company, leading and mentoring electrical apprentices/trainees.
  • Demonstrated experience installing and troubleshooting ABB VFDs is a major plus.
  • OSHA 10 card and NFPA 70E course are required; OSHA 30 card is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems with a focus on energy-saving solutions.
  • Experience in upgrading or retrofitting existing electrical systems to meet current standards.
  • Proficiency in mounting and wiring electrical panels, circuit breakers, and fuse boxes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain detailed records of work performed and materials used.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced, evolving, and entrepreneurial work environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time, using various transportation modes including automobile, public transit, rail, and airplane.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems—including wiring, circuits, outlets, switches, and lighting fixtures—ensuring compliance with local, state, and national electrical codes.
  • Install and troubleshoot ABB VFDs as part of advanced electrical system upgrades and retrofits.
  • Perform installation and repair of building automation system (BAS) equipment such as sensors, actuators, and panel components; install/repair mechanical equipment including air handlers, chillers, ducting, and dampers.
  • Install electrical materials (wire, conduit, etc.) and logging/metering equipment on live circuits using appropriate PPE provided by the employer.
  • Analyze, report, and resolve field technical issues related to control systems, BAS or electrical equipment; support the lead electrician with detailed analysis, reports, and MOP sign-offs.
  • Identify and resolve issues like malfunctioning equipment, circuit overloads, and wiring problems while maintaining accurate logs of service hours and project work.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, adapting to additional duties as business needs evolve.
  • Adhere to company policies and the highest ethical standards to ensure world-class experience for internal customers, clients, and business partners.
