About The Position

Southeast Road Builders (SERB) is one of the companies within Colaska Inc., the Colas USA subsidiary that operates throughout the state of Alaska. The ideal candidate will oversee maintenance and repairs of Sandvik drills and other drill and blast supporting equipment at remote sites minimizing downtime and ensure equipment properly maintained. The ability to work independently with limited supervision will be necessary.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand/work on feet for extended periods
  • Walk on uneven terrain
  • Use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls
  • Climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, see, and hear with frequent exposure to loud noise
  • Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
  • Occasionally lift and move 50 pounds or greater
  • Required to pass pre-employment drug screening as well as a PAT (Physical Ability Test) prior to starting work
  • Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Must have own tools

Nice To Haves

  • College/University/Trade School or equal experience in relevant field preferred
  • Professional certifications as applicable to show experience
  • Previous experience in road construction and/or a shop setting preferred to ensure a smooth transition into the role
  • CPR and 1st Aid Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair Sandvik, John Henry, and other drill and support equipment
  • Maintenance and service of equipment
  • Coordination of maintenance and repairs of equipment with Shop Foreman
  • Responsible for repair and maintenance records in accordance with the Shop Foreman and Safety Department's direction
  • Inspect equipment and track equipment repair needs; communicate recommendations on shop repairs to the Shop Foreman
  • Assist with procuring, receiving, and inventory of shop supplies and parts under the direction of the Shop Foreman
  • Work with and training apprentice mechanics and service oilers
  • Support organization and maintenance of the shop facilities including organization and compliance with Colas 6S goals along with associated facilities and support infrastructure
  • Promoting safety and regulatory compliance while performing job responsibilities
  • Maintenance of CDL with hazmat endorsement
  • Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays. Typical weekly work hours can meet or exceed 60 hours.
