Overview Operator is a journey-level classification. Depending upon project requirements, operates various types of heavy and other related equipment. Incumbents are assigned to work crews and receive direction from supervisor/lead worker(s) for their assigned project. This is considered to be a safety sensitive position. Responsibilities Operates backhoes, bulldozers, wheeled front end loaders, excavators, bobcats, ditch witches, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, etc. Excavate for duct banks, underground lighting and branch conduit, vaults, etc. as directed. Utilize heavy equipment to set manholes, transformers, pullboxes, shoreboxes, shoring, etc. as directed. Set Trench plates. Support and participate in utility installations. Attach a load to be set in place (Only to be performed by a Certified Rigger). Manual labor may be required for any operations equipment cannot perform. Maintain any barriers and caution tape around excavation at all times to maintain a safe environment. Understand grade stakes and read utility markings. Maintains the work area to ensure it’s clean, sweeps and picks up debris. Qualifications Experience in commercial and industrial construction required. Maintain a valid driver’s license. Maintain a valid Operator License Maintain status of a Certified Rigger and Trench Competent Person Five years or more of operating experience preferred. Valid Driver’s License Ability to operate equipment listed under essential duties. Detailed oriented, conscientious, hardworking team player. Physical Demands Lift 50 lbs. from the ground and pull 50 lbs. of force. Perform ladder climbing. Fully squat, stoop or kneel while performing duties. Maintain a standing position for long periods of time while performing repetitive actions while performing duties. Working Environment A variety of weather conditions including cold, snow, rain, heat, etc. High noise levels.
