About The Position

This position is responsible for the construction, repair, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of an electric utility system.
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Skill in utilizing specialized tools and equipment related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of electric services.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in establishing effective working relationships.
  • Skill in assessing, analyzing, identifying, and implementing solutions to complex problems.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting maps and drawings.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • A high school diploma or GED AND completion of a four-year Lineman Apprenticeship program or completion of Lineman school and four (4) years of relevant power line installation experience or closely related experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Possession of and ability to maintain certification as a Journey Lineman.
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Wyoming Class A commercial driver's license.
  • May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, materials, and/or other items weighing up to 70 pounds and carry up to 20 feet.
  • Must be able to work with hands rubber-gloved and with rubber sleeves.
  • Must be able to work from an aerial lift device and climb and work on wood structures up to 100 feet in height.
  • May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, infectious diseases, high voltage work areas and extreme heights.
  • May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.
  • May be subject to call-out and/or call-back.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution infrastructure.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical substation system equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs transmission system infrastructure.
  • Performs duties in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the training of Apprentice Lineworkers in the use of safety and proper procedures while working around energized equipment.
  • Performs the duties of the Electrical Services Supervisor in his or her absence as assigned.
  • Locates electrical and fiber optic systems.
  • Responds to power outages, emergency situations, or customer concerns; responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Troubleshoots transmission, substation, distribution, secondary services, and street light systems.
  • Develops and implements switch plans to safely perform switch procedures of infrastructure changes.
  • Operates a variety of construction equipment as needed.
  • Performs related duties.
