GENERAL SUMMARY Performs work in the operation, surveillance, major repair, and maintenance to building system equipment, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems. Per engineering direction performs major project and system modifications to Energy Northwest office complexes, shops, warehouses, mobile buildings, and equipment, both leased and owned; interfaces with engineering, management, and technical employees, and works independently. Functions within this position include: HVAC Technician, Fire System Maintenance and Operations Technician, Electrician, Plumber, and Mobile Crane Operator. NOTE: There is no automatic progression from Plant Technician I to II even if the necessary license and/or certification is obtained. Management retains the right to decide when/if a promotion will occur.

Requirements

  • Requires HS Diploma or GED and four years of applicable technical experience and/or equivalent related experience achieved through successful completion of a four-year apprenticeship program, which has resulted in a journeyman’s classification; OR Two years of related experience and an Associate’s degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university in the field of practice.
  • Must be able to provide documentation of apprenticeship, trade school, experience, and training.
  • Must maintain valid state driver’s license.
  • Must have and maintain a current Washington State L&I Certified Plumber’s license #PL01.
  • Must be able to obtain certification in backflow prevention valves within one year of employment and maintain thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Must maintain up-to-date Facilities & Commercial Engineering Services logs.
  • May be temporarily assigned to another plant or complex outside of their normal geographic area for periods up to thirty days, or for the duration of an outage, not to exceed sixty days.
  • Must perform other tasks as assigned including duties of Plant Tech I, Service Person I, or Service Person II.
  • Troubleshoot and repair process instrumentation used to monitor and control flow, temperature, pressure, power level, etc., including both pneumatic and electronic types.
  • Assist in initial system lineup, calibration, pre-operational testing, and startup testing of newly installed or repaired systems.
  • Assist assigned supervision in the preparation of tooling and spare part requirements, preparation of instructions, and establishing a preventive maintenance program for systems responsible for.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of assigned systems.
  • May require installation of new equipment.
  • Independently perform work in one or more of the following disciplines: HVAC Technician : Perform operation, maintenance and repair of all types/brands of HVAC equipment such as refrigeration units, drinking fountains, and HVAC systems from light residential to 300-ton sizes, air and water-cooled chillers and associated equipment. Fire Systems Maintenance and Operation Technician : Perform operation, maintenance, testing, and repair to various building fire protection systems. Work on fire alarm systems including testing and calibrating devices, troubleshooting fire alarm panels. Electrician : Perform operation, maintenance, and repair to electrical distribution systems including substation (approximate size is 13.8 KV), uninterrupted power systems, diesel and electrical generators. Plumber: Perform maintenance and installation of plumbing fixtures, sewer and potable water systems, including pumps and controllers for lift stations, hot water recirculation and potable water distribution. Mobile Crane Operator: Setup, inspect, operate and maintain large mobile cranes on a nuclear power plant site. Direct rigging crew to safely secure loads and move them to desired location.
