About The Position

The Journey HVAC plays a key role in ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), and refrigeration systems. This position performs diagnostic inspections, identifies system faults, and completes repairs or equipment replacements to ensure systems operate safely and effectively. The role will also provide guidance and training to staff and end-users on the proper usage and basic maintenance of HVAC equipment. Responsibilities include maintaining appropriate inventory levels to ensure the timely availability of materials and parts to complete necessary assigned work. All duties must be performed in accordance with established safety standards, environmental regulations, and manufacturer specifications. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service while supporting a safe and comfortable learning and working environment. As part of the selection process, candidates will be required to participate in evaluation exercises, which may include a written assessment and/or practical hands-on exercise designed to evaluate technical knowledge and job-related skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Journey HVAC certification or completion of an HVAC technical training education/apprenticeship program from an accredited institution
  • Four (4) years of job-related experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
  • Experience and ability to use hand tools and power tools
  • Speak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in English
  • Basic experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), and experience using data-based software
  • Utah driver’s license and evidence of insurability

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industry-standard HVAC tools, including electrical meters, torches, diagnostic equipment, refrigerant recovery, and vacuum pumps
  • Four (4) years working as a Journey HVAC Technician
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification
  • Rocky Mountain Gas Association - RMGA Certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and refrigeration, and other support systems; evaluate equipment malfunctions and determine necessary repairs or replacements
  • Conduct repairs and maintenance on various systems, including but not limited to chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handlers, rooftop units, refrigeration units, and digital control systems to ensure optimal functionality, safety, and operational efficiency
  • Perform routine equipment preventative maintenance (PM) and safety checks to ensure that items are available, in safe working condition, and comply with legal mandates
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns
  • Coordinate with administration and other trades to complete projects and work orders in an efficient and timely manner
  • Complete work in accordance with federal, state, and local codes, manufacturer's recommendations, and generally accepted HVAC and refrigeration principles
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, including refrigerant tracking records, chiller logs, and other relevant reports, to ensure accurate record-keeping and information dissemination
  • Ensures the availability of equipment diagrams and service manuals for diagnostic purposes and reports any modifications, upgrades, or updates as necessary
  • Transport various items (e.g., tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) to job sites to ensure the availability of materials required
  • Maintain vehicle and tools in safe operating condition, and stock equipment and supplies to maintain and track adequate inventory levels to ensure availability
  • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars as assigned to convey or gather information required to perform job functions
  • Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlines
  • Support a team environment by collaborating with one's own and other work units to effectively perform job duties
  • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
  • As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
