About The Position

Applicants - Please note that it is required that you have either taken the competitive Nassau County Civil Service exam and are on the list, or have the qualifications to become a provisional hire in the title and take the exam when announced by Nassau County Civil Service. Secures jobs, develops and coordinates job training and placement programs; performs related duties as required. COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES: Under general supervision, the duties are varied and require the use of judgment in securing jobs for public assistance recipients enrolled in a vocational training program. Position involves substantial field work.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
• Two years of satisfactory experience which must include: conducting employment interviews, developing jobs, providing occupational guidance, providing occupational referrals, selecting personnel, placing personnel, researching employment programs, planning employment programs, and/or conducting occupational training in a formal training program.
• Continuing possession of an appropriate class, valid Driver License issued by the State of New York .Must have an operable automobile available for use.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in Industrial Psychology, Social Work, Public or Business Administration, Community Development or related field may be substituted for one year of the experience as outlined above.
• Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the two-year requirement, may be substituted for college education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years.
• Bilingual Preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops leads to identify possible contractors for the employment of public assistance recipients.
• Confers with prospective employers to promote employment of vocational training program participants.
• Follows up with employer to determine program effectiveness.
• Prepares periodic reports.
