About The Position

Jobs Plus is a key initiative within Henry Street Settlement’s Education and Employment Services, a $10M division dedicated to fostering self-sufficiency by providing a continuum of services from early childhood education to adult workforce programs. Jobs Plus is a place-based workforce development program designed to support NYCHA residents in securing sustainable career opportunities while connecting them to financial and community resources. Our team remains engaged with participants beyond employment placement, ensuring long-term career success and stability. The Employment Specialist is responsible for connecting Jobs Plus members to quality part-time and full-time employment opportunities aligned with their skills, interests, and career goals. This role leads employer outreach, job development, and placement activities while maintaining strong relationships with hiring partners across multiple industries. By conducting labor market research, coordinating hiring events, and providing timely job referrals, the Employment Specialist plays a critical role in increasing member employment outcomes, strengthening employer pipelines, and advancing the overall success of the Jobs Plus program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, Business Administration, Workforce Development, Sociology, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in workforce development, employer engagement, job placement, or related employment services roles.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Solution-oriented, collaborative, and proactive in addressing member and employer needs.
  • Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding performance metrics in employment placement or business development.
  • Highly motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) Internet research and job boards Database management systems and electronic case management platforms Virtual communication tools (Zoom, Teams)
  • Flexible schedule with willingness to support occasional evening or weekend events.
  • Comfortable providing services both in person and virtually.

Responsibilities

  • Secure part-time and full-time employment opportunities for Jobs Plus members that meet or exceed the approved minimum wage.
  • Provide at least 10 new members per week with interview referrals and job placement opportunities aligned with their skills and career interests.
  • Partner with the Employment Coordinator to conduct assessments, identify strengths and transferable skills, and develop employment goals that support strong job matches.
  • Maintain and strengthen employer relationships through follow-up calls, onsite visits, and feedback collection, and share key trends with program leadership.
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 45 members per quarter, delivering timely referrals and ensuring alignment with members’ career pathways, with a target of at least 30 placements per quarter through direct referrals.
  • Host monthly employment spotlights or hiring events at the Jobs Plus site, leveraging employer partnerships to meet member needs.
  • Collaborate with Workforce1 Career Center staff and other workforce partners to coordinate job fairs, hiring events, and training opportunities.
  • Conduct regular employer outreach, including bi-weekly field visits and participation in career fairs across the five boroughs, to expand partnerships and support recruitment pipelines.
  • Leverage employer relationships to maintain ongoing hiring pipelines for Jobs Plus members.
  • Conduct a minimum of five daily employer outreach efforts, including cold calls and monitoring local hiring trends, to identify opportunities aligned with member goals.
  • Perform ongoing labor market research to provide members with current insights on industry trends and in-demand skills.
  • Prepare and submit weekly reports summarizing employer outreach, field visits, job referrals, and placement outcomes to the Assistant Director.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of employer contacts, member referrals, and employment outcomes in all required tracking systems.
  • Move office furniture and equipment, including tables and chairs, for indoor and outdoor events.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of event spaces to support program operations and member activities.
