About The Position

FW Walton, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Job Cost Accountant to support our roofing construction operations. This role is responsible for managing daily accounting functions while ensuring accurate job cost tracking, project financial reporting, and cost control. The position works closely with project managers, operations, and leadership to monitor job profitability and maintain accurate financial records.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in construction accounting, job costing, or bookkeeping
  • Strong understanding of construction job costing and general accounting principles
  • Experience with accounting and job cost software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets, formulas, basic reporting)
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear communication with project managers and leadership
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience with Sage Paperless, TimberScan, or similar document management tools.
  • Experience in roofing or construction industry
  • Familiarity with WIP reporting and percentage-of-completion accounting

Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain job cost codes for roofing projects
  • Track and analyze job costs including labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead
  • Monitor project budgets and compare estimated costs to actual costs
  • Prepare and review job cost reports, margin analysis, and variance reports
  • Assist with work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and project close-outs
  • Review job cost entries for accuracy and proper coding
  • Work with project managers to resolve cost discrepancies and improve cost controls
  • Support month-end close related to job costing and project reporting
  • Perform accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Enter and code vendor invoices, subcontractor bills, and job-related expenses
  • Generate customer invoices and apply customer payments
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
  • Assist with payroll processing and allocate labor costs to jobs
  • Ensure expenses are coded correctly to jobs, departments, and accounts
  • Support audits and internal reviews by providing financial and job cost documentation
