Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Individual and Person Centered Services the Job Coach will be responsible for the following; Job coaching refers to the training of an employee who is learning the skills of a new profession. A job coach will use structured intervention techniques to help the employee learn to perform job tasks to the employer's specifications and to learn the interpersonal skills necessary to be accepted as a worker at the job site and in related community contacts. Job coaching can also include related assessment, job development, counseling, advocacy, travel training and other services needed to maintain the employment.

Requirements

  • HS diploma/GED required.
  • Medication certification preferred or training will be provided.
  • Six (6) months experience with I/DD population preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License for at least 6 months or more, acceptable by agency standard required.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with an individual with a disability at the workplace/volunteer site to help them learn the specific requirements of the job.
  • Assist the individual in learning work-related activities and requirements such as time and attendance rules.
  • Teach appropriate work-related (including social) behaviors when dealing with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Provide hands-on assistance to the individual at their workplace until they can function independently.
  • Identify areas of vocational and personal strength and weakness early in the process.
  • Track the frequency of coaching on individual goals using a data collection sheet daily.
  • Encourage the individual to advocate for themselves, while also being able to advocate on their behalf if necessary.
  • Prompt the individual on how to complete tasks and model tasks when necessary, without completing tasks for the individual.
