About The Position

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Provide specialized on-the-job training and support to assist individuals with disabilities in learning and performing a new or changed job and adjusting to the work environment. This includes: task analysis for a particular job; teaching client workers the necessary steps required to complete job tasks; working side-by-side with the client workers to ensure all aspects of the job are done to the employers satisfaction; using appropriate learning strategies and identifying necessary accommodations.

Requirements

  • Combination of education and experience typically represented by an Associates degree in a human services field preferred; minimum of a high school diploma or GED and one year of related experience working with adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities, preferably in a vocational setting, required.
  • Great flexibility in accepting a wide variety of assignments at employment sites in the community, including, but not limited to clerical, manufacturing, guest services, food services, and janitorial settings.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and hours based upon client work schedules. Demonstrated reliability and dependability.
  • Uses standard English in oral and written communication.
  • Has professional appearance, attention to detail, accuracy and ability to plan and organize work efficiently and independently.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude toward clients, staff and agency personnel and to work cooperatively with employers.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Windows-based software programs: proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • If applicable at a particular worksite, physical capability to perform lifting (at least 50 lbs.), pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, crouching, stooping, kneeling and reaching.
  • Reliable transportation, a willingness to travel throughout the Northeast Ohio region, and a valid Ohio drivers license with no more than two (2) moving violations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance in the performance of job duties and social integration skills for clients placed into competitive jobs, as well as for clients in community-based work adjustment, situational assessment, and at OakLeaf Partners sites.
  • In conjunction with the employer, perform task analyses at designated job sites to learn the specific tasks a client worker is expected to master.
  • Teach clients the necessary steps required to complete job responsibilities.
  • Use appropriate individualized learning strategies and identify any necessary accommodations
  • Work side-by-side with the client to ensure all aspects of the job are done to the employers satisfaction, keeping in mind production requirements and safety concerns.
  • Train clients in all skills necessary to perform the job including (but not limited to) training in vocational, social & interpersonal skills, travel, safety, problem solving, work culture, etc.
  • As the worker masters the job tasks, provide input as to when job coaching services will no longer be needed.
  • Regularly and candidly communicate with other OakLeaf Services staff to coordinate services, share information and problem solve.
  • Maintain all required documentation of services, including detailed, accurate and timely verbal and written reports on client progress.
  • Maintain professional relationships with all employers and clients.
  • Conduct follow-up contact with employers and clients; this may include personal visits, phone contact, or mailed forms.
