About The Position

The Job Coach will assist students with disabilities in acquiring job skills, preparing for interviews, and monitoring their on-the-job performance. This role is crucial in helping students transition from school to employment by providing tailored support and guidance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • For Title 1 Funded Campus: 48 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR meets NCLB requirements for Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals.
  • For Non-Title 1 Funded Campus: 30 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR three years of full-time work-related experience with special needs students in an instructional or child care facility.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with progress toward mastery of transition goals and objectives in the implementation of the IEP.
  • Assist students with completion of job applications.
  • Train students on appropriate work-related behaviors and social skills.
  • Participate in job interviews and provide job coaching according to the individual needs of the student.
  • Maintain a regular schedule of direct involvement with the student in the implementation of the student's IEP in partnership with their campus-based caseworker.
  • Provide a continuum of supports and services to employers of vocational students including: regularly scheduled job site visits, ongoing communication, and on-the-job supports and job coaching.
  • Assist campuses with evaluation of student vocational skills and behavior to assist in determining work readiness, abilities, interests, and preferences.
  • Maintain and document communication with teachers assigned to work with VAC students.
  • Conduct a task analysis of skills required for particular job(s).
  • Train and coach students with disabilities to meet jobs employer's established standards.
  • Conduct regular data collection to monitor acquisition of job skills.
  • Participate in transition team meetings for the purpose of providing input on student progress toward Individual Transition Program goals.
  • Attendance at work is an essential function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
