The Summer Work Experience program (SWE) is a six-week youth training program designed for high school students with disabilities. It offers them the chance to earn a paycheck while gaining valuable, real-world work experience in a supportive and accessible environment. Participants engage in several 4–5 hour shifts each week, exploring various job tasks and developing essential workplace skills such as communication, task focus, self-advocacy, and following directions. Job Coaches play a crucial role by working alongside participants to help them meet employer expectations, providing ongoing training, addressing performance challenges, and facilitating the development of relationships with coworkers and supervisors, thereby fostering natural supports on the job. The program runs for six weeks, typically from June to July, and selected candidates for the Job Coach role are required to attend training sessions in April and May. This is a temporary, part-time position with working hours of 20-22 hours per week.
