About The Position

In addition to the duties of a special education paraeducator, the Paraeducator/Student Job Coach for Students with Disabilities will play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse abilities in their transition from high school to the workforce. The primary responsibility is to work closely with students, employers, and educators to facilitate successful employment outcomes for students with disabilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Job Coach certificate required (must be maintained)
  • Teacher Assistant Certificate required
  • Chauffeur's license required
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a vocational or career counseling capacity.
  • Willingness to explore multiple vocational training opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations related to employment for individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate with educators, employers, and community stakeholders.

  • Associates Degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with disabilities, understanding their unique strengths, challenges, and career aspirations.
  • Assist or contribute to personalized plans to enhance students' employability skills, considering their individual needs and goals.
  • Assist students in exploring various career paths, identifying potential job opportunities that align with their skills and interests.
  • Collaborate with special education faculty and staff to integrate career exploration into individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Build relationships with local employers to create or expand job opportunities for students with disabilities when onsite with student(s)
  • Assist with coordinating internships, work-study programs, and job shadowing experiences to expose students to real-world work environments.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to integrate skill-building activities into the curriculum.
  • Advocate for the inclusion and accommodation of students with disabilities in the workplace, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Work with employers to implement reasonable accommodations that enable students to perform their job duties effectively.
  • Regularly assess and document students' progress in skill development, job placement, and overall career readiness.
  • Provide feedback to students, teachers and school staff on achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Assist with developing partnerships with community organizations, vocational rehabilitation services, and disability advocacy groups to enhance support networks for students.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, job placements, and program outcomes
  • Generate reports to demonstrate the impact of the job coaching program
  • Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with personal health needs (may include, but not limited to, toileting, feeding, dressing) as required.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected for all staff.
