About The Position

St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School (SSSAS) of Alexandria, VA is looking to hire an engaging, dynamic and enthusiastic educator to teach Lower School science to students in Junior Kindergarten through Second Grade. We are seeking a Lower School Science Teacher who will inspire students to explore scientific processes, skills, concepts and principles through engaging and hands-on learning experiences. The teacher will create a warm, structured and collaborative learning environment grounded in the Responsive Classroom approach.They will design and deliver developmentally appropriate, inquiry-based science instruction aligned with Next Generation Science standards and STEAM principles, using indoor and outdoor learning spaces, campus resources and field experiences. Instruction will incorporate hands-on learning, multi-media technology and meaningful integration across classroom and specials classes. The successful candidate will know students well, assess progress in science knowledge, skills and social growth, maintain accurate records and communicate thoughtfully with families, and Lower School faculty. They will also collaborate with JK-12 science colleagues. All members of the faculty instill our school's mission by helping their students to become responsible, honest, compassionate, respectful citizens. The successful candidate will be required to exercise professional judgment and responsibility in keeping with the expectations of the School's faculty.

Requirements

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or the equivalent; advanced degrees are strongly encouraged; state certification is not required.
  • Have previous experience teaching science to young students.
  • Possess a wide knowledge of elementary science education.
  • Have the ability to integrate emerging and current technologies and STEAM principles into the curriculum.
  • Demonstrate a passion for gardening curricula and have previous experience with outdoor education.
  • Have a strong commitment to educating a diverse student body within a caring and creative environment.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have strong references who confirm the applicant's ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
