About The Position

The position involves planning a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. The educator is responsible for creating a conducive learning environment, preparing for classes, implementing policies, and being a team member focused on improving the educational program. Regular assessment of student accomplishments and communication with students, colleagues, and parents regarding progress is essential. The role also includes maintaining classroom order, assisting students in applying classroom learning to real-life situations, and guiding the learning process towards curriculum goals. The educator must maintain accurate records, develop classroom behavior rules, and be available for education-related purposes outside instructional hours. Participation in professional development and community involvement is encouraged, along with effective communication and relationship-building skills.

Requirements

  • Illinois State certification in teaching in the appropriate subject area.
  • Completion of a state-approved preparation program or hold a valid out-of-state certificate.
  • Meet all coursework and testing requirements as detailed in Illinois statute and rules.

Responsibilities

  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates an environment conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Implements and carries out all applicable policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Shares matters relating to the improvement of the educational program with the principal.
  • Implements the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports.
  • Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Maintains a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Helps students acquire values, attitudes, and skills for self-sufficiency.
  • Plans learning activities recognizing different needs and abilities.
  • Assists students in applying classroom learning to everyday situations.
  • Guides the learning process toward curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents outside instructional hours.
  • Demonstrates preparation and skill in working with diverse student backgrounds.
  • Encourages parent and community involvement.
  • Participates in in-service education and continuing professional development.
  • Assigns and grades class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Demonstrates interest in students beyond the classroom by attending school functions.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships.
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
  • Reports to work regularly and punctually.
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the district administrator.
