About The Position

The Part-time Farm Worker in the Breeder Division at Jennie-O Turkey Store is responsible for managing farms in the absence of the farm manager, following the Farm Manager's Production Guide. The role involves assisting with the movement of turkey flocks, performing repairs and maintenance on equipment, and following sanitation and safety procedures. The worker will communicate regularly with supervisors and may be required to work every other weekend. Additional duties include sample taking and assisting with various farm operations as needed.

Requirements

  • Basic math skills and able to read and write at a 4th-grade level.
  • Able to work weekends and holidays and supply reliable transportation for travel to work sites.
  • Cannot own or raise any type of fowl (i.e. turkeys, chickens, geese, pheasants, parakeets, etc.).
  • Able to meet all sanitation requirements and work in a smoke-free environment.
  • Ability to work in a dusty environment with ammonia present in all weather conditions while using approved respiratory protection.
  • Facial hair must not compromise respirator face to mask seal - No beards.
  • Ability to twist, stoop, bend, squat, lift, carry, reach while handling turkeys, feed, litter, equipment weighing between 10 lbs. to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous animal husbandry experience and/or farm background (two years).
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Entry-level computer skills (Excel & Word).

Responsibilities

  • Manage farms in the absence of the farm manager under the outline of the Farm Manager's Production Guide.
  • Help with the movement of turkey flocks to confinement growing or range.
  • Work every other weekend replacing the farm manager unless otherwise instructed.
  • Assist farm managers in all areas of production as needed.
  • Supply reliable transportation to work sites.
  • Perform repairs, maintenance on equipment, and construction on projects as assigned by supervisor.
  • Assist wash, manure crews, and shavings delivery or other areas as required.
  • Follow sanitation and isolation procedures using tracking patterns.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures as recommended.
  • Communicate with supervisor on a regular basis to receive work orders as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Sample taking (blood-fat-manure).
