About The Position

About the Innovation Team: The Innovation Team is housed within Jefferson County’s Business Innovation and Technology Department. Our vision is to foster innovation to transform government services for the better. We operate a series of projects and programs such as process improvement training, innovation programs and internships, technology evaluations, and project management of select service improvements. About the Innovation Internship Program: Jefferson County’s Innovation Team hosts a cohort of interns every fall and spring semester as well as during the summer. Innovation interns get first-hand experience in civic innovation, ranging from emerging technologies to transformational initiatives. We strive to build a strong community, even within a hybrid environment, and provide opportunities for mentoring, networking, professional development, and getting to know your fellow interns. Internships are designed to last at least a semester, and successful interns are encouraged and welcome to continue their internship. Contact: Andy Rosen, Innovation Program Coordinator, [email protected] About the Position We are searching for an Innovation intern to support the operations of the Jeffco Innovation Lab. The intern will help to facilitate workshops and events, coordinate planning activities, and ultimately support employees all over the county in transforming county services for the better. The position will report directly to the Innovation Program Manager and receive project guidance and mentorship from the Innovation Lab Lead. The successful candidate will have great interpersonal and facilitation skills, a knack for data analysis and technology, and a desire to facilitate change in government! SCHEDULE: This internship is for 20-29 hours per week. The majority of these hours should be completed during core business hours Monday-Thursday, 8 AM – 5 PM. This internship is hybrid, with remote work and in-office work as determined by business need. On average, this role can expect to be in the Golden office 4-6 days per month. COMPENSATION: Hiring Range: $22.00 – $25.00 USD Hourly Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills. BENEFITS: Please note that this is a temporary, non-benefited position scheduled to work approximately 20-29 hours per week. There is no holiday pay. Employees are able to earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Specifically, the Jeffco Innovation Lab Intern should expect to: Support and scale Jeffco Innovation Lab programs which currently include: Process Improvement, Change Management, and Human-Centered Design. Co-facilitate trainings and workshops for employees. Develop and provide tools, resources, and platforms to support employee innovation. Provide operational support for internal JIL processes. Coach employees on their innovations by helping them manage change and use metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of their ideas. Partner with county staff on the continuous improvement journey. Enhance the Innovation Team’s brand through online engagement and communications. About you: We’re looking for a curious and organized person with a passion for creative problem solving around open-ended challenges to jump in and contribute to our Innovation team initiatives. We welcome non-traditional candidates in our internship program and work with career changers as well as current students and recent graduates. Generally, we’re looking for candidates with the following experiences, skills, and/or interests: Interest in pursuing opportunities in government innovation. Interest in the intersection of technology and how organizations deliver high quality services. Familiarity with process improvement, human centered design, and change management. Interest in and experience facilitating events and presentations. Enthusiasm for enhancing employee and community member experiences by delivering thoughtful, service-oriented solutions. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Adaptable as both a supportive team player and leader. Experience taking initiative and showing leadership on a project’s direction.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Interest/experience in facilitating groups and delivering training.
Interest/experience in innovation frameworks and methodologies related to: process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six-Sigma, or Human-centered design.
