About The Position
The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking adjunct faculty to teach the Japanese Language program on-site at Camp Hansen, Okinawa. This position is part-time and requires a commitment to engage with adult learners in a dynamic educational environment. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in Japanese Language or a related field from an accredited institution, along with professional experience in the Japanese language or a related area. Teaching experience, particularly with adult learners in higher education, is strongly preferred. Local applicants are encouraged to apply, as adjunct faculty positions do not qualify for UMGC-sponsored logistical support. Candidates must maintain their own legal status in Japan to be eligible for this role. As an adjunct faculty member, you will play a crucial role in fostering student success by actively engaging students through frequent interactions that motivate them to excel. You will guide students in collaborative learning experiences and help them apply their knowledge through problem- and project-based learning demonstrations. Providing constructive feedback is essential, as is demonstrating current subject-matter expertise. You will also be expected to contribute to curricular improvements by providing feedback to your program chair. This role is vital in helping students connect concepts across their academic programs and achieve their educational goals.
