About The Position

Responsible for the general janitorial and maintenance of the health department buildings and grounds; Performs related work as required. CHARACTERISTICS OF A CLASS: ARE GENERAL STATEMENTS INDICATING THE LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY AND DISCRETION OF POSITIONS IN THAT JOB CLASSIFICATION. Is responsible for the general maintenance of the health department buildings and grounds; Performs related work as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE COMPREHENSIVE STATEMENTS OF THE MINIMUM BACKGROUND AS TO EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS WHICH WILL BE REQUIRED IN ALL CASES AS EVIDENCE OF AN APPOINTEE'S ABILITY TO PERFORM THE WORK PROPERLY.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED
One (1) year of experience in building maintenance.

Responsibilities

Sees that the building has adequate heating, lighting and ventilation and that it is properly cleaned
Inspects electrical, plumbing, heating and other equipment and makes minor repairs for their maintenance
Arranges desks, files and other office equipment
Supervises the upkeep of grounds and buildings
Acts as custodian of all department property in maintaining and supervises the receipt and shipping of all materials and equipment.
Clean, sweep, dust, mop, wash, vacuum, polish and wax floors.
Clean windows, woodwork, furniture and equipment.
Clean toilet facilities and keep restrooms supplied with towels, soap and other items.
Collect and dispose of trash from buildings and grounds.
Perform unskilled maintenance work.
Perform outside work such as cleaning walks and overseeing lawn care.
Move furniture and equipment.
Ability to perform physical labor such as moving furniture, equipment, or climbing ladders, etc.
Ability to follow instructions concerning various chemicals which may be used to perform job responsibilities.
